Look Mom it's got headphones! That's right, the first of a new generation of "cross over products". It's easy to see why FujiFilm saw an opportunity for a product like this, take a typical digital camera, it's got batteries, a storage system (SmartMedia in this case), a processor, it's portable and you carry it everywhere.. Now what else fits into that mold? Only one of the hottest selling gadgets of the year.. an MP3 player. Despite all the controversy surrounding MP3 it's still the consumers choice (perhaps the record companies will cotton on eventually) with more and more MP3 sites popping up all over the place and new MP3 file sharing applications available every day (sure, shutdown Napster.. Someone else will bring out a new napster-like product tomorrow) more and more people are walking down the street listening to MP3's.
So there you have it, two of the hottest products of 2000 in a neat little box, the FujiFilm FinePix 40i is a digital camera and an MP3 player.. One of the toughest things for FujiFilm is going to be finding the correct target market and promoting it in the right way, it's an simple fixed lens digital camera with a basic MP3 player, and it's $700...
